Why work from home when you can WORK FROM A CAFE? ☕️

As a raging extrovert with a serious craving for variety the work from home life when I started my business came as a bit of a shock to me. 😳 Once I had exhausted almost every sittable surface in the house within the first two weeks I knew that I would need to find a better solution for my polyamorous online office exploits.

But while I longed for the CoWorking vibes I’d seen on other entrepreneurs instagrams there was a bit of a budget gap between what I wanted & what I could realistically afford at that satge in my business.

There was only one thing for it.

I became a serial WFC* gal.

*That’s Work from Cafe for those of us not hip with the lingo.

BUT busy cafes aren’t always the best when you get a surprise zoom meeting or when you’re rocking three spreaddies on the go with 100 tabs open.

I needed a WFC strategy.

Here are the Work from Cafe tips that changed the game and got me out of the house and being my most productive self

My Top Tips to work from anywhere

☝🏽 Pick the right cafe - you want one that’s not full to the brim so that you can avoid the dirty stares of wait staff as you drag out that Caramel latte over 4 hours of your best work. Better yet find a cafe set up for remote workers like Crave in Auckland where they have desks upstairs for people to work at no extra cost.

✌🏽 Get the right equipment - getting noise cancelling headphones changed the game for me - I rock the Bose 700 Noise cancelling alongside the Krisp app for background noise to make it easy on me AND my unsuspecting zoom participants. You can also get super cheap portable second screens if the confines of one screen makes your throat tighten with claustrophobia.

🖖🏽 Change it up - if you’re like me and a change of environment sparks a state change for you make sure you keep it fresh. Try different spots for different things. Maybe there is a space that you go to SPARK the creative juices and a spot where you feel like you could conquer your whole to do list in a blink. Cultivate these habits and reinforce them with your environment and your caramel latte in hand.

Extra for Experts: Your local cafes will learn to love you if you greet them with a smile and ask permission to work from their slice of paradise. I always throw in a “Just kick me out if you need the table” for good measure and of course chuck them a tip if you can.

Shoutout to the cafes who became my coworkers - Crave, Orca & Geeks and everywhere in between serving caramel lattes with a smile.
